Dear Friends of the House of Norway, Let me begin by telling you that we have a wonderful Syttende Mai Celebration planned this year. We will have the flag-raising at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17th near the House of Norway (not Sefton Plaza). On Sunday, May 18th, at 1:30 p.m. we will have the Children's Parade and Lawn program which will include Remarks by the Norwegian Consul, music, dancing and activities for the children. For additional details, please see the flyer included in this envelope.
Recently a guest visited the House of Norway and wrote a five star review. Here are some of her comments: "The House of Norway is situated in the Balboa Park's International Village. Of all the international houses that I visited I was most impressed by the House of Norway. The volunteer who greeted us, an older Norwegian gentleman, clearly loves his homeland. He gave us a tour of Norway by showing us pictures, costumes and various artifacts that they had on display and telling us about the history of Norway and places we have to go if we ever visit. Another volunteer was busy preparing waffles for guests to sample.
Friendly, welcoming and informative! I definitely recommend stopping in to visit the House of Norway. They are open on Sundays between noon and 4pm." This year we are inviting Active, Associate and Supporting Members of the House of Norway to donate to the restoration of the House of Norway Cottage. It has been some time since our last restoration. Our benefactor at that time was from a Sons of Norway Lodge under the leadership of Glenda Holsbo. Those donations did wonders for the interior of the House of Norway. The House of Norway is in urgent need of renovation again. The interior wall and ceiling need repair and repainting. The two patios are in need of new flooring, furnishing and wall treatments. We will use our savings to prepare the Cottage for the 17th of May but additional funds are needed to continue needed capital improvements and to replenish our savings account.
Please use the attached form to donate to the House of Norway Capital Improvement Fund, Youth Fund, and President's Education Fund and the Cultural Fund. You may also use our web site to make a donation with a credit card at: www.houseofnorway.net. I mentioned Glenda Holsbo who made possible a noteworthy contribution to the House of Norway. Perhaps there is someone you wish to give a gift "in honor of" or "in memory of". A substantial donation may warrant additional recognition. Please use the attached Brochure form and return envelope for documenting gifts and recognition.
Donations to the House of Norway are tax deductible under the IRS. The House of Norway receives income through donations on Sunday, membership renewals, two fund raisers and donations from those who care about the House of Norway. Your contributions have accomplished great things: dynamic educational programs, engaging exhibitions, youth programs and public education. As we near the Syttende Mai Celebration, Memorial Day, Mother's Day, and Fathers Day, please consider honoring or remembering those special to you with a gift to the House of Norway. Thank you for helping the House of Norway remain a great place that remembers Norway's past and honors Norway today.
Sincerely,
Jim Adams
President, House of Norway
