Maps of Norway

First, let's look at where Norway is in Europe. The Kingdom of Norway borders Sweden, Finland, and Russia.

Then, let's take a look at the country of Norway. It's long and slender with a very long coast line. With a population of 4.4 million and 125 050 square miles, its population density is only 35 people per square mile. this is compared to about 39 in Finland, 51 in Sweden, 70 in the United States, 313 in Denmark, and 621 in the U.K. The capital, Oslo, is also the largest city with a population exceeding 1/2 million. Berg4en is the second largest city with about 1/4 million people.

The first published map of Norway itself as a separate country was made by Johannes Blaeu (1596-1673) in Amsterdam in 1662. He was the eldest son of Willem Janszoon Blaeu (1571-1638) who founded the world-famous Amsterdam printing house Blaeu. Willem Janszoon Blaeu learned the techniques of making instruments and globes from the celebrated Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe.

Although Oslo is the current capital of Norway, it has succeeded Trondheim and Bergen. Here's a map of Europe indicating but one city in Norway: Bergen. This map was published at the Boston Daily Advertiser in 1830 by the Boston School of Geography.
